GENEVA, Ohio - Ashley Dewitt (shot put) and Justin Ware (400-meter dash) hit NCAA Division II Provisional marks as the Tiffin University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the SPIRE North Coast Classic, Saturday. The teams combined for 39 top 10 finishes and six additions to the top 10 list.
Men
Tiffin picked up individual wins in three events. Emmanuel Grembo ran 7.02 to win the 60m dash, Travis LeFlore cleared six feet, 6.75 inches in the high jump while John Pemberton topped the shot put field with a put of 53 feet, 3.50 inches. Justin Ware placed third in the 200m dash with a NCAA Division II provisional time of 22.20.
Colin Fisher ran 15:02.69 to place second in the 5000. It was the third fastest time in school history. The Dragons recorded additional runner-up performances from Antonio Combs in the triple jump (44 feet, 11 inches), Andrew Moore in the 60m hurdles (8.62), Sylvester Watts in the 800 (1:57.63), the 1600m relay team of Dominic Colvin, Deven Keene, Jacob Buckwalter and Ware (3:24.59) and the distance medley relay squad of Mike Grunden, Watts, Chris Heid and Brett Hunter (11:03.90).
Women
In the shot put, Dewitt hit the NCAA Division II provisional mark with a toss of 45 feet, five inches. It was the third longest toss in school history and she placed third in the competition. D'Wanda Ford ran a career-best 8.01 to place second in the 60m dash.
Additional second place performances came from Kayla Ellks in the long jump (17 feet, 10.75 inches), Katherine Gerhardt in the shot put (45 feet, nine inches), Meghan Gill in the high jump (five feet, five inches) and Carly Reese in the 5000 (18:30.09).
Tiffin is back in action, Saturday, Jan. 28, when they compete in the Findlay Classic. The meet, which is in Findlay, Ohio, is scheduled to run all day.
