TIFFIN, Ohio - Sophomore Joe Graessle and senior Travis Spahr each scored at least 28 points as the Tiffin University men's basketball team (10-12) beat Notre Dame College (6-13) 94-81, Wednesday evening at the Gillmor Center.
In the first half, the game was back and forth for the first 10 minutes. Tied at 18-18, Raphi Tekie hit a three-pointer. That made it 21-18, Notre Dame with ten minutes to go. The Falcons never lost the lead and hit two buckets in the last 50 seconds to lead by six at the break.
In the second half, Tiffin kept chipping away, cutting the margin to two, 48-46 with 16:11 to go. The Dragons then scored 12 straight points. Freshman Andrew Bendolph hit a pair of free throws to make it 58-48 at the 13:10 mark.
NDC then decided it was time for them to do their own streaking. Marcquice Taylor drove the lane and hit a layup. That was the 13th straight point and gave the Falcons a 61-58 lead with 11:23 to go.
TU put on a 24-10 run over the next seven minutes. That made it 82-71 and the bus was starting to warm up. Notre Dame College came firing back with an 8-2 burst to make it 84-79 with 1:15 to go. Tiffin closed the game on a 10-2 run to seal the win.
For Tiffin, Graessle had an all-around complete night with 31 points, seven rebounds, nine assists and four steals while shooting 10-of-16 from the floor, 7-of-12 from behind the arc and 4-of-5 from the line. Spahr had 28 points and shot 12-of-16 from the floor while senior Karl Finley had 15 points and five assists. Freshman Iman Johnson had nine points and nine rebounds.
For Notre Dame College, Phil Biggs had 18 points, 12 rebounds and four steals, Troy Baugh scored 13 and Taylor had 12 points and eight assists.
