MIDLAND, Mich. - Juniors Jordan Stum and Ryan Williams had five hits each as the Tiffin University baseball team (22-23, 17-15 GLIAC) swept Northwood (18-24, 8-22 GLIAC) 11-9 and 4-0, Sunday afternoon at Gerace Stadium. TU has now won 11 of its last 12 games and lead Ohio Dominican by 1.5 games for the sixth and final spot in the GLIAC tournament.

In game one, the offense erupted in the first inning. The two teams combined for seven runs on nine hits. Northwood had the lead 4-3 when the fireworks were over. In the second inning, the Dragons picked up where they left off. Five hits produced three runs to give TU a 7-4 lead.

In the third inning, the Timberwolves used two errors and three hits to score three runs. That knotted the game at 7-7. In the fourth inning, senior Jordan Chiero singled and moved to second on an error on a ball hit by Williams. A ground out advanced the runners and Chiero scored on a single by freshman Derek Koch.

NU wasn't quite done and scored twice in the fifth to take an 8-7 lead.   In the sixth inning, walks to junior KC Weber and Chiero and a single by Williams loaded the bases. Koch singled through the right side to score Weber and keep the bases loaded.

Junior Roger Christensen hit a fielder's choice that forced Koch out. Williams moved to third and Chiero scored on the play. Jordan Schwellenbach was called for an illegal pitch which scored Williams. Tiffin shut down Northwood over the last two innings for the win.

For Tiffin, Stum had three hits, while Koch and Weber had two hits and two RBI's each. All nine Dragons who had a plate appearance got a hit. Freshman Greg Sombati (3-0) gave up one hit, walked two and struck out one in 2.7 innings.

For Northwood, Eric Altman went 3-for-4. Cody Fenskie (4-2) gave up four hits, three runs, two of them earned and walked two in 3.7 innings.

In the night cap, in the third inning, Stum singled and moved to third on consecutive grounders. Jake Winicki was called for a balk which scored Stum.

In the fourth inning, Williams doubled and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Koch grounded out to second base to score Williams. Christensen singled and ended up at third following an error. Stum singled to right field to score Christensen. The Dragons added an insurance run in the fifth,

For Tiffin, Williams had three hits while Koch and Stum had two hits apiece. Senior Jordan Liette (5-5) threw a seven-hitter with one walk and seven strikeouts in seven innings.

For Northwood, Andy Bouchard had two hits. Winicki (3-4) gave up 12 hits, four runs, three of them earned and struck out four in six innings.
