
TIFFIN, Ohio - Kayla Ellks (long jump) and Emmanual Grembo (100-meter dash) set school record as the Tiffin University men's and women's track and field teams wind down the 2012 outdoor season. The Dragons hit nine NCAA Division II provisional standards, broke two school records and had 49 top 10 finishes and seven additions to the top 10 list.
Tiffin competed in the Aquinas Twilight Meet in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Wednesday, May 9 and the GVSU 2nd to Last Chance Meet in Allendale, Mich., on Friday, May 11.
MEN
AQUINAS TWILIGHT MEET
The 400m relay team of Justin Ware, Grembo, Jacob Buckwalter and Omar Lane won with a time of 41.08. That hit the NCAA Division II Provisional Standard and was the second fastest time in school history. The Dragons also got victories from Zach Cernansky in the 110m hurdles (14.77) and Travis Leflore in the high jump (six feet, seven inches).
Runner-up performances were received by Antonio Combs (triple jump - 46 feet, 7.25 inches), Grembo (100m dash - 10.72), Connor Kibler (javelin - 172 feet, seven inches) and John Pemberton (shot put - 54 feet, two inches).
GVSU 2ND TO LAST CHANCE MEET
Grembo ran 10:47 to win the 100m dash. He hit the NCAA DII provisional standard and broke the school record of 10.52 set by Anthony Thomas in 2009. Ware, Grembo, Buckwalter and Lane lowered their provisional time to 41.03 in winning the 400m relay. First place performances came from Cernansky in the 110m hurdles (14.44, third fastest in TU history) and LeFlore in the high jump (six feet, nine inches). Both marks hit the NCAA DII provisional standard.
Tony Marshall was runner-up in the 100m dash at 10.60. His time hit the provisional standard and was third fastest in school history. Justin Ware placed third in the 200m dash at 21.46, the third fastest time in TU history. Third place performances were also garnered by Combs (triple jump - 47 feet, 4.25 inches), Reid Kibler (long jump - 22 feet, 8.50 inches) and Jared Wolff (javelin - 179 feet, 11 inches).
WOMEN
AQUINAS TWILIGHT MEET
The Dragons ended up winning four events. Victories came from Taylor Deskins in the 200m dash (25.40), Ellks in the long jump (18 feet, 3.25 inches), Katie Gerhardt in discus (155 feet, 10 inches) and Marielle Segbor in the triple jump (38 feet, 1.50 inches).
Gerhardt placed second in the shot put (45 feet, 4.5 inches) and the hammer (175 feet, seven inches). Additional runner-up places came from D'Wanda Ford in the triple jump (36 feet, 9.50 inches) and Segbor in the long jump (18 feet, 1/4th of an inch).
GVSU 2ND TO LAST CHANCE MEET
In the long jump, Ellks leaped 19 feet, 3.25 inches to place second. Her jump hit the provisional standard and broke the school record of 19 feet, 3/4th of an inch set in 2011 by Jocelyn Rollins. Ellks also won the triple jump with a provisional leap of 39 feet, 2.25 inches.
Gerhardt was runner-up in the shot put with a toss of 46 feet, 9.50 inches. Third place performances came from Ashley DeWitt in the shot put (45 feet, one inch) and Segbor in the triple jump (38 feet, 3.50 inches).
