Tiffin University's record-setting women's tennis season was rewarded with the release of the GLIAC Women's Tennis Teams and awards. Caroline Nelhage was named Freshman of the Year while also garnering First Team honors, while Phil Conley was named Coach of the Year.
Nelhage, a freshman from Lindome, Sweden, had a sensational debut for the Dragons this fall, posting an unbeaten record in both singles and doubles. Nelhage went 18-0 in singles, including a 14-0 mark in conference play, while also registering a 20-0 record in doubles play with teammate Chelsea Beck. She is the first Dragons player to post an unbeaten season in women's tennis and helped lead the Dragons to the most season wins in their history with 16.
Conley, in his fifth year as Head Coach of the Dragons, enjoyed a record-setting season. He helped guide the Dragons to the most season wins in school history as the team finished the fall with a 16-4 record and a third place regular season finish in the GLIAC with a 12-2 mark. The third place finish is the best finish ever for Tiffin in the GLIAC, while their 12 GLIAC victories are twice as many as they had one year ago.
Malaika Messi was also honored as a First Team standout after going 13-6 at first singles, her second consecutive First Team honor and fourth consecutive All-Conference honor after landing Second Team honors over her first two seasons.
Valentina Mazzola was named the Second Team, playing most of the season at second singles and compiling a 14-6 record. Chelsea Beck was named Honorable Mention All-GLIAC, teaming with Nelhage at second doubles and posting an unbeaten 20-0 record, the first doubles team to post an unbeaten season in TU history.
