The Tiffin University baseball team suffered a pair of setbacks on Saturday afternoon, falling to the St. Joseph's College Pumas 2-1 and 4-2.

Game One

The Dragons jumped on the board first in game one, putting up a run in the top of the 1st. With two outs, Devon Fisk doubled to right field. Fisk raced to the plate on Jay Smith's single to right field to make it 1-0. Tiffin could have had more, but left the bases loaded. The Pumas tied the score in the 3rd, pushing a single run home on three hits. An inning later, the Pumas took the lead with a run on two hits, leading 2-1.

Tiffin had a few chances, stranding five runners over the course of the game. Luke Fraley started for Tiffin on the mound, tossing 3 2/3 innings in a losing effort. At the plate, Jay Smith led the Dragons in hits, finishing 3 for 3 with a run batted in.

Game Two

Tiffin looked for the season split with the Pumas in game two, but ran into trouble in the 2nd inning. Tiffin starter Brady Ward surrendered two runs on a pair of hits and two Tiffin errors. Two more runs crossed the plate in the 3rd inning for Saint Joseph's on two hits, making it 4-0.

In the bottom of the 4th, Tiffin cracked the scoreboard with a run on a single hit. Devon Fisk singled to right field, advanced to 2nd on a balk, moved to 3rd on a wild pitch, and scored on another wild pitch to make it 4-1 Pumas. In Tiffin's final at bat, the Dragons found some more offense. Ryan Thomas doubled to left center field, and moved to third base on a Kyle Durham single. With runners at the corners, the Pumas pushed Tiffin's second run of the game to the plate with another balk. Tiffin had an opportunity to close the gap even further, but stranded a pair of runners to end the contest.

On the mound, Ward tossed 4 innings, allowing four runs, and striking out five in a losing effort. At the plate, Ryan Thomas and Kyle Durham each collected a pair of hits.

Overall, Tiffin falls to 1-2. The Dragons will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, taking on Quincy University.
