TIFFIN, Ohio - Eight Dragons went 3-0 on the day while Tiffin went 1-2 at the 174-pound weight class in TU's final tune-up for the NCAA Midwest Regional next weekend at Findlay, Ohio. Tiffin began the day with a 45-3 thumping of Slippery Rock, a 48-6 triumph over Bowling Green and a 50-0 blanking of Saginaw Valley State to finish the afternoon.

While most matches on the day were forfeits, Tiffin was able to record eight pins and a pair of tech falls with a major decision and decision.

Leading the way on the day was sophomore 165-pounder Johnny Merryman, who recorded two pins and a tech fall. Earning two first period pins in his first two matches, he used four separate three-point near falls and a pair of takedowns to end the match in one period. With the riding point, he beat Tim McMillen of Saginaw Valley 17-1.

Also going 3-0 on the day, but with a pair of pins and a forfeit win, was freshman Jordan Duckett at 133. He got a first period pin in his first match and raced to a 6-0 lead before a third-period pin of Chase McCune of BG. Freshman Kyle Begg at 149 also went 3-0 with a pin, major decision and a forfeit win. Begg began the day with a pin 30 seconds into the second period, followed by a forfeit win against BG. He finished the day with a major decision, 10-2, thanks to more than three minutes of riding time.

Freshman Marco Gualtieri turned in the most impressive match on the day. After a 6-1 decision and a forfeit in his first two matches, he quickly turned Josh Clark of Saginaw Valley State in his final match of the day for the pin in 20 seconds.

Both sophomores Alek Hughes at 197 and Josh Franklin at 285 went 3-0 with two forfeits and a pin while freshman David Bolger at 141 and sophomore Joe Miller at 184 went 3-0 with a trio of forfeit wins.

Freshman Alex Rivera went 1-1 on the day at 174, suffering a 6-2 loss against Slippery Rock before a dominating 21-5 tech fall win in three minutes against Brad Kelly of Saginaw Valley thanks to three takedowns, three near fall threes, a pair of near fall twos and a reversal for the 16-point win.

Freshman Walid Boggio was pinned with a second remaining in his one match against Josh Paulus of Bowling Green at 174.

In three exhibition matches, Tiffin went 2-1 on the day. Freshman Brian Gelter lost 12-5 before a pin against Saginaw Valley. Freshman Zack Fiscus recorded a pin in 2:59 against Saginaw Valley State's Jesse Moggo.

The Dragons return to action next weekend when they make the trek down 224 to take part in the NCAA Division II Midwest Super Regional II.
