Tiffin University finished 6th in the 2010-11 Presidents' Trophy race, their highest finish since they joined the conference three years ago.
TU, which finished 9th in both 2008-09 and 2009-10, moved up three spots in 2010-11, improving from 60.5 points last year to 105.5 points this season. Grand Valley State won the overall award with 201 points, followed by Ashland (155), Wayne State (119.5), Findlay (117), and Ferris State (112.5).
The Dragons were led in large part by their strong women's programs. Overall the women's programs finished fifth overall, a half-point behind Findlay and just three points out of third for the year. Strong showings by women's soccer, softball, and indoor and outdoor track and field along with significant improvement from volleyball and women's basketball gave TU a nice showing in 2010-11.
TU's men's programs finished tied for 8th overall, with men's soccer and indoor and outdoor track and field having the best showings last season. Men's basketball also made solid strides forward.
"Our goal as a department was to be in the top six in the GLIAC," said TU Athletic Director
Lonny Allen. "To move up three spots in one year indicates that our department did a great job across the board. We are very proud to be in the best division II conference in the country and excited about our future."
