[Baseball] Curtin Earns All-Region First Team Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Senior Pat Curtin has been named to the 2012 Daktronics All-Midwest Region first team as an outfielder. He was a second team selection in 2011 and a pre-season second team choice this season.

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Tiffin University men's and women's track and field season has been extended as Lynzi Daughenbaugh, Katie Gerhardt, Emmanuel Grembo, Travis LeFlore and John Pemberton qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships. The meet, which is May 24-26, will be held in Pueblo, Colo.

[Women's Basketball] Jaeb named Commissioner's Award winner

Mandy Jaeb has been named a GLIAC Commissioner's Award recipient for the 2011-12 winter season.

The awards, sponsored by Meijer, Incorporated, are presented after the Fall, Winter, and Spring athletic seasons to six female and six male student-athletes that excel both in the classroom and on the fields of play. All grade point averages are based on a 4.0 scale.

Mandy Jaeb (Louisville, Ohio) earned her third consecutive First Team All-GLIAC honor and her third All-GLIAC Defensive team honor this season as she helped lead Tiffin's women's basketball team to a new school record with 21 wins. She led Tiffin in five offensive categories which included points per game, field goals, free throws, assists, and steals. Jaeb posted the first triple-double in school history against Findlay on December 15, 2011 with 11 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds. Jaeb set new career records during the season for most free throws made while finishing with 1,585 career points. She was named to the All-Academic Excellence Team for the third straight year earning a 3.69 GPA while majoring in management.

The other five female student-athletes to receive the Winter 2012 Meijer Commissioner's Awards are: Jena Stutzman of Ashland University, Shelby Janutol of Ferris State University; Kristen Hixson and Caitlyn Madsen of Grand Valley State University; and Catherine Leix of Wayne State University.

[Track & Field] Tiffin Has 19 Athletes Named All-Region

NEW ORLEANS - The Tiffin University men's and women's track and field team had 19 athletes named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II All-Region team. The top five ranked individuals in each event and the top three ranked relays for each region make the team.

[Baseball] Wilkins named Head Baseball Coach

Lonny Allen has stepped down as Tiffin University Head Baseball Coach, with assistant coach Joe Wilkins taking over as the new Head Baseball Coach. Allen will continue to serve as Tiffin University's Athletic Director.

Allen recently finished his 21st season at the helm of the program. Counting his days as a student-athlete for the Dragons, he has been associated with the program for 24 years. After taking over in 1992, Allen helped the team post a winning record in just his second season, going 17-15 in 1993. One staple of Allen's teams was heavy hitting, as the offensive record books were rewritten numerous times during his tenure. With 444 career victories, no other Dragons baseball manager has won more games. The Dragons have been remarkably consistent, posting 20 or more victories in 14 of his seasons. In 2012, the Dragons also qualified for the GLIAC Tournament for the first time in school history.

"It is with mixed emotions that I give up coaching baseball," said Allen. "This move will help me focus more on being Athletic Director. Being a head coach is very time-consuming, and I never could have done it without the help of (assistant coaches) Joe Wilkins and Kurt Rammel. I also could not have performed all my duties as athletic director without the help of my staff in the athletic department. With the development of the Heminger Center and other projects, this allows me to have a more hands-on role. Most importantly, I would like to thank President Marion for allowing me to serve in both capacities and also for giving me this opportunity to focus more specifically on my duties as athletic director."

"This is a great opportunity for me," said Wilkins. "Coaching here at Tiffin was my first taste of coaching and I have been able to coach at different institutions around the country. I have learned a lot from all the different coaches I have worked with and look to put that knowledge to use with the Dragons."

[Track & Field] Gerhardt Automatically Qualifies For Nationals

ALLENDALE, Mich. - Katie Gerhardt (discus) automatically qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships as the Tiffin University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the GVSU Last Chance Meet, Saturday. The Dragons hit six NCAA Division II provisional standards, broke four school records and had 24 top 10 finishes and 11 additions to the top 10 list.

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Tiffin University baseball team (25-25) made just one error, however it was a costly one as it fell 3-2 to Lake Erie (27-24) at the GLIAC Tournament, Wednesday evening at V.A. Memorial Stadium. The Dragons will face Grand Valley State (38-13), Thursday, May 10 at 2:00 p.m.

[Men's Golf] Dragons golfers finish 17th at Regionals

Tiffin University's men's golf team finished its standout 2012 season competing at the NCAA Division II Midwest/South Central Regional at Jefferson City Country Club in Jefferson City, Missouri. TU finished 17th of 20 teams. The top five teams moved on to further postseason play.

Central Missouri won the event with a three-round score of 864. Seven GLIAC schools competed in the regional, with Grand Valley State finishing 6th with 887. Ferris State was 10th with 896. Ashland just edged the Dragons, shooting 918 while TU was next wth 920. Findlay (18th), Wayne State (19th) and Northwood (20th) rounded out the field.

The Dragons opened with a 306 in round one and improved with a 302 in round two. TU was 15th after both rounds, but dropped off in round three, shooting 312.

"We are very excited about the year we had," said TU coach Darby Roggow. "We are a little disappointed that we couldn't shoot a little better at the regional, but what we accomplished this year is a big stepping stone for our program. This may have been the first regional we reached but we certainly don't intend for it to be our last."

Jon Klein led the Dragons overall, finishing 62nd with a 229 (78-74-77), while senior Dillon Klein also stayed consistent with a 231 (77-78-76). Blake DeBruyn (75-76-80)also shot 231, though he joined senior Jason Crow (77-74-83 for 234) with a difficult round three score. Tyler Maranville was fifth with scores of 77, 81, and 79 for a 237.

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Tiffin University baseball team is set for their first postseason play at the NCAA Division II level as they compete in the GLIAC Tournament. The Dragons (25-24, 20-16 GLIAC), the No. 4 seed, take on the No. 3 seed, Lake Erie (26-24, 22-14 GLIAC), Wednesday, May 9, at 5:30 p.m.

BAY CITY, Mich. - Senior Pat Curtin shared the GLIAC Player of the Year award as the 2012 All-GLIAC Baseball team was released. He is the second TU player to earn GLIAC Player of the Yera in the last three years, following Devin Rudolph in 2010. A total of six Dragons were selected in all-conference voting.

[Tiffin] Ford, Maranville named Freshman Scholar Athletes of Year

Tiffin Universitiy's D'Wanda Ford and Tyler Maranville have been named Freshman Scholar Athletes of the Year by vote of the Scholar Athlete Committee following their exceptional debut seasons.

Ford, a women's track standout, is ranked in the top 15 in NCAA Division II in the women's long jump. She holds the school record in the long jump and is currently second in the GLIAC in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump. She has a 3.40 GPA and is majoring in Forensic Psychology.

Maranville, meanwhile, was named Honorable Mention All-GLIAC in men's golf and finished in the top 10 at the GLIAC Championships. He also was top 5 at Texas A&M International and the TU Kyle Ryman Memorial. He played in every varsity event and holds a 4.00 GPA.

[Tiffin] Creakbaum, Moore named April Scholar Athletes

Tiffin University's Jessie Creakbaum and Andrew Moore have been named April's Scholar Athletes of the Month by vote of the Scholar Athlete Committee.

Creakbaum, a softball senior team captain, has played in 166 games in her career with 8 home runs and 54 RBI in her career. She has a 3.88 GPA and is majoring in Psychology.

Moore, meanwhile, is a men's track and field standout. He is currently ranked fourth in the GLIAC in the 110 high hurdles and eighth in the GLIAC in the 400 hurdles. He ranks fourth all time in TU history. He has a 3.94 GPA and is majoring in Law Enforcement.

TIFFIN, Ohio - Senior Jordan Chiero and junior Kyle Robinson had five hits each as the Tiffin University baseball team (25-24, 20-16 GLIAC) swept Saginaw Valley State (24-24, 20-16 GLIAC) 5-4 and 9-3, Sunday afternoon at Heminger Field. The sweep puts the Dragons into the GLIAC tournament for the first time in school history.
