The Tiffin University men's basketball team put an end to their six game losing streak on Tuesday afternoon, dominating the Lambton College Lions to the tune of 95-56. The Dragons simply out muscled the Lions, holding an advantage in rebounding 54-33, points in the paint 52-18, and forced the Lions into 15 turnovers.
Both sides started slow, but once Tiffin got rolling they were off and running. With 05:28 remaining before halftime, Tiffin held an eight point lead at 29-21, but that was about to change. Tiffin exploded on a 13-2 run to make it an even 20-point lead at 41-21. Tiffin added a few more points before the halftime gun, and entered the locker room with a comfortable 47-23 lead.
Tiffin's bench poured in 22 points in the half, and defensively the Dragons held the Lions to only 28.1% shooting from the field. Individually, Shane Waldon and Austin Adams led the way offensively in the half, each netting 11 points.
The Dragons continued to add to their lead in the 2nd half, as the combination of Adams, Waldon, and Braxton Fasone took over for Tiffin in the paint. The Dragons scored 48 2nd half points with 34 coming in the paint. The aforementioned three accounted for half of Tiffin's 2nd half offensive output. The Dragons really hit the paint in the 2nd half, holding a 30-12 rebounding advantage in the half. TU was consistent at the foul line as well, hitting 22 of 24 attempts while allowing the Lions only seven throws from the stripe. At the final horn, Tiffin walked away with their third victory of the season.
Waldon led all scorers with 21 points on 7 of 13 shooting. Austin Adams added 19 points, going 11 for 11 from the charity stripe, and Braxton Fasone recorded career highs in points (14) and rebounds (8). Terrell Mabins was Tiffin's top distributor, finishing the contest with a career high seven assists. Quentin Jones was the final Dragon in double figures, scoring 13 points on 60% shooting from the field.
Tiffin improves to 3-8 overall.
